I am Maija Nochevnaya, and I am a painter. I make warm landscapes. I know how to walk inside my own paintings. Come along with me.

Maija, about herself

Born in Norilsk in 1982. Trained as an architect and a mining engineer; moved to Finland in 2006 to study horticulture, and started painting there. Works in oil, most often on paper.

The eye tries to count every leaf, every blade of grass — and quickly gives up. You no longer read the image, you begin to feel it.

Marfa's Dogs

The other side

Under this name I'm someone else. Marfa doesn't walk through a garden — she presses herself onto canvas: her back, her shoulder blades, black acrylic — and a dog emerges from the print. The first one was born in 2011; since 2018 it's no longer an accident but a practice. I don't draw the face first — a few strokes after the imprint, and it becomes clear who it is. My own worries and other people's, friendship, loneliness — things a landscape has no room for.

    Дорогие мои попутчики, пятничный вам Привеет👋 Вы заметили, что у нас середина мая, а город тонет уже в пышном цветение! Дворы многоэтажек заполнены ароматами. Цветущие яблони, черемуха, сирень, спиреи и тысячи луковичных радуют наши глаза!
